BACKGROUND
The Republic Rubber Company was founded on February 28th, 1901. It was a one of the biggest providers of tires and rubber hoses for the automotive and aerospace industries. The company reached its peak with employing 2,300 people and having a yearly payroll of $4 million. The factory produced pneumatic and solid tires for the automobile industry as well as hoses and rubber belts. The company continued to expand and reached a capital high of $10 million.
The company expanded its property and built a new tire plant in 1907, a storage building in 1908, and a club house in 1913. The company prospered for a long time but dark days came upon it. The company was purchased by the Aeroquip company in 1963. The company did well until its closure in 1989 due to rising energy and maintenance costs. 350 people were left unemployed. The company was then abandoned shortly after and has been abandoned since.

THE MISSION
Members: Brandon Greavu, Jacob Andrews, Seth Richards, Christian Grimm
Date: December 16, 2017
Report: On December 16th, 2017, the Malvern EPS made their first visit to Youngstown, Ohio to explore the Republic Rubber Company and General Fireproofing. We began the night by parking at the Army & Navy Garrison along Logan Avenue at about 7 p.m., and walked down the road until we turned left on Hubbard Road. We continued walking until we came across the railroad tracks. Our first stop was at Republic Rubber Company, so we began by walking south along the railroad tracks for maybe 0.3 miles until we came to the upper left corner of the property (according to the map below).
We slowly crept towards towards the property and through the long building as our feet crunched on the snow below. Grimm opened Google Maps on his phone to get a sense of our location, when suddenly he spotted a cop car on Maps watching the area just outside of the building we were in that we haven't noticed prior to the mission. We all naturally got much quieter and tense knowing there may have been a cop. Once we got to the end of the building, we peaked around the corner and didn't see any sign of the police, however, we spotted fresh tire tracks in the snow. We slowly kept moving and tried using the darkness and brush for coverage. We found a set of footprints, but they seemed to be somewhat old and didn't fit the characteristics of a cop. Beginning to feel at ease, we kept moving, but not letting our guard down.
We began by exploring the building roughly in the middle, which was almost entirely empty and dangerous. We continued moving south through a large field of debris and the remains of old buildings until we got to the large chimney. After checking out the chimney, we explored the several buildings in the bottom left corner of the property. Many parts of the buildings were falling apart and crumbling, and most sections were very unsafe. One building included large machinery while another lead to collapsed tunnels. We moved east toward the large building and upon entering it, it was almost entirely open and contained piles among piles of tires. We got a few good pictures here until we left and headed back up north. We checked out the remaining three buildings along the north border until we decided it was time to leave. We exited the property the way we came in and continued down the railroad tracks to our next place, the General Fireproofing Company. It was roughly 8:30 p.m. when this mission concluded.
Overall, the Republic Rubber Company was very unsafe and dangerous. The buildings were crumbling and the remains of demolished buildings included rubble and holes in the ground. All the buildings themselves were in horrible condition and we advise anyone to take extreme caution at this place or just avoid going to it at all. It's also likely that a police officer consistently patrols the place, however, he was not there when we went. We did not experience anything paranormal.
