BACKGROUND
The St. Joseph Riverside Hospital was constructed and opened in the 1960's. It was built on Tod Avenue right beside the Mahoning River in Warren, Ohio. The original Building consisted of 2 Medical Facilities and a power plant. In 1970 an additional medical wing was added as well as another medical wing in 1980 followed with other minor additions.
It served the city of Warren for a good amount of years employing a bunch of people as well as treating many patients over time. The upper floors of the hospital were used to house a few businesses to raise money and avoid bankruptcy. The Trumbull County Republican Party, a private school, and veterans association all were housed at the hospital at one time.
In 1995 the hospital was bought from the Sisters of St. Mary by HM Health Services who then moved all of the hospitals operations to the new Warren General Hospital in 1996 which still operates today. As a result the St, Joseph Riverside Hospital was closed but the building however still stands abandoned today.
The Building that we have today is very very vandalized by people who have gone into explore the old hospital. Warren, Ohio is a very bad area so as a result of these factors the hospital is on constant watch by multiple cops in the area. The Building is in very bad condition with falling out floors and ceilings and even some flooding. The once prospering St. Joseph Riverside Hospital may be closed but the building still stands to tell a story of its own to this day.

THE MISSION

Report: The Malvern EPS visited Warren, Ohio on the night of December 27th, 2017, to investigate the abandoned St. Joseph Riverside Hospital. Situated along the Mahoning River, we decided to park at the Because of Him Ministries at roughly 7 p.m. Snow lingered on the ground and temperatures felt like they were below zero. We crossed Tod Place into the cracked, overgrown parking lot of the hospital and entered through the large southeast entrance. Large windows were busted out and the building was very accessible and easy to get into.
The first thing we noticed was the poor condition and how dilapidated the building was due to vandalism and neglect. We explored the first floor and began to move down towards the basement. We found a room with a long, dark tunnel connected to it. We began travelling down this dark tunnel and it felt like it was forever until we found ourselves in some large power room with many machines and generators. We explored the rest of the basement until we began moving up to the rest of the 4-5 floors. There were many long hallways with connecting rooms and sections such as lobbies and stage areas. We moved up out onto the roof, where we analyzed the surrounding areas and noticed a cop car that was still parked at the Stonegate Place Apartments we noticed earlier. After spending time on the roof, we went back inside of the hospital and briefly reviewed the hospital. We made our way back to a stage area to take pictures, and decided to leave soon after, finishing our mission at roughly 10:30 p.m. We did not experience anything paranormal.
We began walking to the southeast entrance of the hospital and back out the way we came in, and as we were coming out under the overhang, there was a cop car a few feet in front of us on patrol. In panic, we took off running back into the hospital. We found ourselves in the south wing of the hospital when Seth began punching out a window that led out to the west side of the building. We exited and ran around the backside of the building, hiding behind the hospital for a bit as we were thinking of a plan. We decided the best move was to act inconspicuous and walk down the sidewalk of Tod Avenue and make our way back to the car at the church.
We began moving and eventually passed Stonegate Place and the cop car who was sitting there, with our hearts racing in fear as we slowly walked past him. After walking for a little longer, we finally made it back to the car. We quickly put our gear in the trunk, got in the car, and pulled out onto Tod Place. We decided to drive down towards the dead-end of the road to see if there really was a cop car in the parking lot, and not only did we see one cop car, but we saw two cop cars. We turned around and began driving down Tod Avenue to head back home, not knowing our scariest experience yet was about to come.
We drove down Tod Avenue for several hundred feet until we saw red and blue lights in our rear-view mirror – the cops who were patrolling the St. Joseph Hospital were pulling us over. The feeling of panic struck us again, and we determined the cops knew we were inside the hospital and they were finally going to catch us. We pulled over, and both cop cars followed as four officers approached our car. They asked for our IDs and began asking us questions. Seth was able to come up with a convincing story that we were visiting a friend, and the cops notified us that they pulled us over because our trunk was open. This made us feel a bit relieved, until we remembered that all of our gear was exposed back there. Grimm got out of the car to close the trunk as two cops were peering in the trunk with flashlights. Fortunately, there wasn't much to see except for our backpacks and coats. We talked to the cops for a little bit and we were lucky they didn't suspect us as the ones inside of the hospital. They decided to let us go, and we began our ride back home with one of the craziest experiences we have had yet.
